Culture of Calm is a sound-based wellness initiative that brings calming, sensory-aware sound experiences into high‑stimulation environments such as airports, workplaces and public spaces. Travellers can access these resources by scanning QR codes displayed on banners and stickers located in both the transborder and domestic lounges.
“The passenger experience guides everything we do,” said Eve Wiggins, Chief Operating Officer, Nieuport Aviation. “Creating an accessible passenger terminal means thinking beyond the physical journey, and in doing so ensuring Billy Bishop Airport is a place where all travellers feel welcome, supported and at ease.”
“Culture of Calm was born from noticing what happens when people encounter even a small moment of calm in spaces that rarely offer it,” says Bianca Lee, Founder of Culture of Calm. “Airports can be fast-paced and overwhelming, particularly for those who experience sensory sensitivities or travel-related stress. Through this partnership, we’re introducing simple, accessible tools to help people feel more grounded, regulated and at ease as they move through their journey.”
As part of the initiative, Bianca Lee will appear live in the terminal on April 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as part of the Music on the Fly series, a partnership between Nieuport Aviation, Arthaus, and the City of Toronto that brings local artists into the airport to showcase Toronto’s diverse creative talent and welcome travellers to the city. During the performance, Bianca will lead a live sound bath, providing passengers with relaxing soundscapes designed to offer travellers a moment to pause while passing through.
For nearly a year, Nieuport has partnered with the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) to showcase local businesses within the Billy Bishop Airport terminal. Through this partnership, dozens of businesses have been featured, promoting everything from local festivals to books and clothing, and it was through this initiative that Nieuport Aviation and Bianca Lee first came into contact. The program accepts applicants on a rolling basis, and interested parties are encouraged to apply HERE.
