Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and The Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) are today announcing an innovative partnership that will provide visitors to the airport with the information—and inspiration—they need to embark on new adventures in Canada’s largest city. The initiative will feature a rotating roster of local businesses, BIAs, events and festival organizers, all with one goal: to connect those passing through the terminal to the best Toronto has to offer to visitors and community members.
The program builds upon the efforts of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s ongoing commitment to reflecting Toronto and all that the city has to offer through its public arts programming and the retail options for travellers in the lounges. Strategically positioned in the atrium of the terminal, as visitors make their way toward the pedestrian tunnel or ferry access, these pop-ups will generate excitement about Toronto’s world-class tourist offering and act as an informative jumping-off point for adventures in the city.
“Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s unique downtown location makes it a quick, convenient gateway to Toronto and the wider region for millions of passengers each year,” says Jennifer Quinn, CEO of Nieuport Aviation. “Welcoming local businesses, events and festivals into the terminal offers an important opportunity for passengers, community members and the people who rely on YTZ to learn more about all there is to experience in Canada’s largest city.”
"This partnership brings the spirit of Toronto right into our airport," says RJ Steenstra, President and CEO of PortsToronto. "By showcasing the city's dynamic neighborhoods, local entrepreneurs, and cultural experiences, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport becomes more than just a travel hub—it becomes a place of discovery and connection."
“These initiatives were made possible through federal funding provided by the City of Toronto's Main Street Innovation Fund,” says John Kiru, CEO, TABIA. “This is a valuable opportunity for local businesses and events to connect with over 3 million annual visitors arriving through Billy Bishop Airport. It’s an exciting platform to showcase vibrant neighborhoods and highlight diverse offerings in our city.”
